A General Introduction to Primary School English

More Information
General Overview

Primary English ranges from teaching the foundations of reading and writing, to learning how to analyse texts and write essays. All throughout this time, the focus remains on the basics of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Depending on their level and age, students will have different goals, but all revolve around the same interaction with the English language. English is a fundamental building block towards all future studies and understandings of society, therefore it’s extremely important to have a strong grasp of the subject from a young age. Every child develops their understanding of English at a different pace, making patience and determination key to helping them learn.

Difficult areas

Areas of difficulty will range between students, but common areas include reading and comprehension of writing. Students who are learning English as a second language may also struggle more with speaking and listening, as they may not have the practice at home.

Mindset needed

To do well in Primary English, a willingness to learn and determination to keep trying and learn from mistakes are super important.

Traps and pitfalls

Students may become frustrated when unable to articulate their thoughts, so it’s important to be patient and let them take the time they need to understand new concepts.
