Preparing for Methods SACs can be challenging as there are many concepts to revise and often students do not know where to start. Our Methods Tutors have compiled their most effective methods for studying for upcoming SACs to help you with your revision!
Review Content
- Review the course content on a macro-level. Briefly read over your notes relevant to the SAC as this will allow you to get an overview of the core concepts covered to determine potential weaknesses in specific areas. Don’t spend too long on this step, methods is a skills-based subject.
- Complete a broad range of medium difficulty practice questions and try to focus on the weaknesses you identified earlier. These can be from your textbook, online resources or your teacher. This will allow you to consolidate your knowledge and minimize your weaknesses.
- Practice applying your understanding in difficult questions and extension problems as these often require creative applications of the core concepts. Practicing this skill is important as it will make using your understanding easier in your SAC and the problems may be similar!
- Do practice tests, or go over the practice tests you were given in class. Understand why you lost marks and if it’s not clear, ask your teacher – they are the ones marking your work and doing so will optimize your marks. Understanding how questions are marked is an important skill in methods as many marks are allocated towards showing your working out or notation even if the final answer you provide is not correct.
Mental and Physical Preparation
- Get lots of sleep – leading up to the test and on the night of. Sleep allows you to retain information more easily so that you can reach peak performance.
- Go to sleep on a full stomach and have a full breakfast – the brain’s main energy source is glucose.
